Dear Parents, Welcome to fourth grade! I am so excited to have your child in my class this year. I have had a nice, restful vacation and am ready to gear up for a year full of fun and learning! This will be my 18th year teaching fourth grade. I have taught for 7 years at Highland Creek before coming to Parkside Elementary. I have 2 girls of my own (ages 9 and 12). I love spending time with my family, watching football with my husband, going for a drive in my Jeep, being outdoors, and relaxing at the beach. Your child will be learning lots of exciting things this year. Fourth grade seems to be a year where you will see your child bloom into a more independent learner. Therefore building a secure foundation and independent, self-reliant students for future growth is priority in my class. The fourth grade team will strive to make your child a more fluent reader, sharpen those math basic math skills they learned in third grade, build their sense of inquiry through science, and teach them how to write through the content areas. I hope to keep the lines of communication open so that we can discuss any accomplishments or concerns you may have about your child. Please know that I am always willing to talk to you. You can write me a note or email me at [email protected]. Furthermore, my classroom is always open. I look forward to parent volunteers to share experiences or help around the classroom.
Here are some ways you can help your child this year:
* Ask your child questions about what he/she did in class. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work. * Check and sign your child’s agenda nightly. * Listen to your child read everyday, if possible. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom.
Again, welcome to fourth grade. I know that together we can ensure this year as a success. Get ready for a great journey!
